Reasonable adjust with CPR training
Quote from Darren Gilchrist on May 1, 2026, 2:42 pmI have been asked to show reasonable adjustment while training and assessing CPR for student (adult)who has some past trauma with this situation.
This is a performance evidence skill that must be demonstrated through.
I can make things private and more comfortable but end of the day if someone stops breathing you got to do it.Any thoughts? 😀

I have done what you have as well as prior to the private assessment, I check their mental and psychosocial status, ask if they want a support person present, and have a debrief with them afterwards. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.
Recently there was a student that lodged a WorkCover claim for PTSD after one of my courses at a childcare centre as they had to attempt CPR prior to do a refresher with me. The refresher triggered her PTSD, I did check with them prior to the session and she verbalized she was okay to continue, however, they were ultimately triggered so I needed to recall the session to the Childcare Centre's insurance investigator. No issues with the training or how it was handled as I did what you have suggested.
